Contraindications for Non-Invasive Body Contouring Treatments

Before undergoing any non-invasive body contouring treatments, it is essential to understand that there are certain conditions and situations in which these procedures may not be suitable. Below is a general list of contraindications that may prevent or require caution before receiving treatments such as ultrasonic cavitation, radiofrequency, low-level light therapy, EMS, vacuum therapy, and others.

Please consult with your body contouring specialist during your initial assessment to discuss any medical conditions or concerns. Your safety and well-being are our top priorities.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

  • Non-invasive body contouring treatments are generally not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Cardiac Conditions

  • Individuals with heart conditions, including those with pacemakers or other implanted medical devices, should avoid treatments that involve electromagnetic or radiofrequency energy.

Cancer

  • Active or recent history of cancer, especially skin cancer, is a contraindication for many body contouring treatments.

Metal Implants

  • Clients with metal implants (e.g., screws, plates, rods) in the treatment area may not be suitable candidates for some therapies, such as radiofrequency or EMS, which can interact with the metal.

Severe or Uncontrolled Medical Conditions

  • Conditions such as diabetes (especially uncontrolled), hypertension, liver or kidney disease, and severe autoimmune disorders should be discussed with a healthcare provider before treatment.

Blood Clotting Disorders

  • Clients with clotting or bleeding disorders, or those taking anticoagulants, may be at risk during body contouring treatments.

Infections or Open Wounds in the Treatment Area

  • Active infections, wounds, rashes, or skin conditions (e.g., eczema, psoriasis) in the treatment area are contraindications.

Epilepsy

  • Certain treatments, particularly those involving light therapy, are not suitable for individuals with epilepsy or seizure disorders.

Recent Surgeries

  • Individuals who have had surgery in the treatment area should wait until fully healed and cleared by a physician before undergoing body contouring treatments.

Hernias

  • Those with abdominal hernias or similar conditions should avoid treatments targeting the abdomen.

Autoimmune Diseases

  • Clients with certain autoimmune conditions, like lupus, may be advised against these treatments due to the potential for adverse reactions.

Varicose Veins and Severe Vascular Conditions

  • Those with significant vascular issues or large varicose veins should consult with a physician before treatment.

Acute Inflammation or Fever

  • Clients with acute illnesses, fevers, or inflammation should postpone treatment until fully recovered.

Obesity

  • Non-invasive body contouring is not a weight-loss solution and may not be suitable for clients with obesity, as these treatments are most effective for targeting localized fat.

Menstruation (for Abdominal Treatments)

  • For some women, it’s recommended to avoid abdominal treatments during menstruation, as it may cause discomfort and obstructs lymphatic drainage.
